We have a Pope! The white smoke whistled through the chimney, the heavy bells resounded. The doors were opened and the eldest cardinal walked in the Sistine veranda... and then there he stood humbled by the powers of the lo zucchetto (papal skullcap) entrusted to him. Everyone in the Basilica's rejoicing, flags including ours silking through dusk. The recurring feeling of longing for JPII who cradled our world for 26 long years is now coupled with the novel gratitude for the new face of the Father. Pope Benedict XVI, the Dean of the College of Cardinals, at 78, is now our Pope! Rejoice! Sic Transit Gloria Mundi (Thus passes the glory of the world)...
